[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Greenwood, Tulsa, often referred to as Black Wall Street, has both a bright and dark spot in the history of America and especially black America. It was once an exemplary town where black middle class and black businesses flourished.  The race riot of 1921, led by angry white mobs, destroyed 35 square blocks of homes and businesses and left hundreds dead. This horrendous act has been mostly forgotten by mainstream society but not by black society.

This upcoming New Year’s Eve, EsquireEventGroup, LLC will be remembering Black Wall Street at The Greenwood Gala: A Black Wall Street Affair. This event will be held in the city of Philadelphia and aims to bring together upwardly mobile minorities in the tri-state area (Pennsylvania, Delaware, & New Jersey).

We had a quick chat with the event organizers.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”green” border_width=”2″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]BE: What Inspired this event?

Esquire Event Group: The Greenwood Gala theme came to us as tensions under the leadership of 45 grew and we saw a reduction in value of the African American person to non-African Americans.  We are using this theme to educate the public about the Greenwood neighborhood of Tulsa, OK, which served as a symbol of African American economic power during the early 1900s, while also reiterating the importance of practicing cooperative economics to re-establish our own economic power as a people. We think that people tend to feel motivated to achieve a goal when that goal has been achieved before, and many people do not know about Greenwood.  Although a race riot in 1921 leveled the neighborhood, killing approximately 3000 African Americans and burning 600 African American businesses to the ground, the residents of that neighborhood were able to rebuild and revitalize it until the end of segregation.

BE: What can participants aim to gain from the event

Esquire Event Group: Participants will attend a well-executed event hosted by a company whose mantra is that the “devil is in the details” while dressed to the T in their best NYE outfits. Attendees will join other upwardly-mobile professionals that like to escape the rigors of their professional lives by “turning up” and having a guilt-free good time.  Attendees will be greeted by servers with hors d’oeuvres and can leave their wallets at home as the event is open bar and includes free parking.  They can also feel good knowing that their participation will support a business competition that will shape the life of a few students that wish to be the next great entrepreneurs.
