Longtime Mississippi news anchor for WLBT, Barbie Bassett, might have been fired for reciting one of Snoop Dogg’s catchphrases, “Fo Shizzle, my nizzle.”

The on-air moment happened on March 8th during a story about Snoop Dogg’s business venture, Snoop Cali Blanc. When fellow anchor Wilson Stribling joked that a colleague might et a snoop Dogg inspired tattoo, Bassett responded by quickly saying, Fo shizzle, my nizzle.”

Now it is being reported by Clairon Ledger that Barbie Bassett may have been fired because of the racially insensitive remarks. WLBT has not made any public comments regarding this incident.

This moment has led to a discussion on the popular talk show The View with some arguing that they did not know that the term “my nizzle” was just another term for the N word.

But it turns out, this is not the first time Bassett has made racially insensitive comments. Back in 2022, the news anchor apologized for a racial comment she made towards a reporter. She called a Black reporter’s grandmother a “grandmammy”, a term which has historical connotations.

Bassett’s apology stated, “Though not intentional, I now understand how my comment was both insensitive and hurtful. I have apologized to Carmen Poe. Now, I would like to apologize to you. that is not the heart of who I am. And for that, I humbly ask for your forgiveness and I apologize to everyone I have offended. I will learn from this and participate in training so I can better understand our history and our people. I can’t mend the hurt my comment caused. I pray you’ll forgive me and that you’ll extend grace through this awful mistake.”
