Oprah 2020?

Although she has denied it over and over again, people have not let up on the possibility of Oprah running for president in 2020, especially after her arousing speech at the Golden Globes this past Sunday. According to CNN, Gayle King, Oprah’s closest friend, and other close sources claim that Oprah is seriously considering Oprah 2020.

Oprah running for president would be a monumental event. She is a black woman who rose up from poverty to become one of the most influential and wealthiest people in the world. She is also one of the most beloved figures in modern American history. Her talk show was watched by millions of adoring fans, regardless of their political affiliation.

But politics is a different beast.  As soon as she joins the Democratic Party to run as a candidate (we’re assuming if she runs, it would be as a Democrat), half of the country would automatically intensely dislike her. Sure, she has endorsed Democratic candidates before like President Obama, but to endorse is one thing and to be that political candidate is another.

The run for president is a brutal process. So much will be dug up on her even if she’s been a public figure for decades now.  Her loved ones will be scrutinized,  conservative fans that adored her will turn on her, and more.  So, would a run for president tarnish her legacy forever, win or lose?

But if she wins, she will be making history as not only the first female president, but the first black female president. The chance to make history like that is of course very intriguing.
